Uganda

The “Pearl of Africa,” offering unparalleled primate encounters, diverse wildlife, and lush landscapes.

Uganda Overview

Uganda, famously dubbed the “Pearl of Africa” by Winston Churchill, is a land of incredible natural beauty and biodiversity. It is the premier destination for mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest. Beyond primates, Uganda offers classic safaris in Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls National Parks, where you can spot the Big Five, enjoy boat safaris, and witness powerful waterfalls. Its lush green landscapes, friendly people, and diverse ecosystems make it a truly unique African adventure.

Logistics

Uganda is accessible via its international airport.

  • Visa: Most foreign visitors require a visa, which can be obtained online as an e-Visa prior to arrival. Some nationalities may get a visa on arrival. Always verify current regulations.
  • Main International Airport: Entebbe International Airport (EBB) near Kampala.
  • Internal Travel: Domestic flights are available to key safari regions, though many transfers involve comfortable road travel.
  • Currency: Ugandan Shilling (UGX). USD is widely accepted in tourist areas.

Optimal Seasons

The best time for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking is during the drier seasons (January-February and June-September) when forest trails are less muddy. Game viewing in national parks is also excellent during these periods.
